The reason why many women today get infected is because they know very little about how to treat, prevent and avoid STDs. Sexually transmitted diseases or STD are among the most common infections today with more than twenty different viruses and bacteria that cause the infection.

STDs are transmitted through sexual activity with infected partner and if not treated on time could seriously damage health. There are a few most commonly spread STD infections such as Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Syphilis, Trichomoniasis, Human Papilloma Virus or HPV and HIV/AIDS. All these infections are curable but they have to be diagnosed and treated on time. Most of these infections have the same symptoms such as abdominal pain, painful urination, vaginal discharge in women and painful intercourse. It is very important to be informed so if one of these symptoms occur patient should visit the doctor immediately.

STDs could be detected during a physical exam: through Pap smears; and in tests of blood, urine, and genital and anal secretions. All STDs are treated with medications. Bacterial infections can be cured with broad spectrum of antibiotics, however viral infections requires different medications that can treat but not always cure the infection. While treating the infections the patient has to be very discipline and strictly follow doctors instructions. If the medications are not properly taken it is very possible for the infection to recur. This will prolong the symptoms as well the treatment.

STDs are most common and easily spread infections. Best way to protect yourself is to inform yourself. By knowing how to prevent, avoid or recognize the symptoms individuals decrease the possibility of getting an STD. Abstinence from sexual intercourse, having one uninfected partner, condoms and in some cases preventative vaccine are the best ways to stay protected. If not treated on time and the right way, STDs can seriously harm patient’s health. Be informed and stay protected.
